HULL COUPLE GUILTY OF SHOCKING CHILD NEGLECT AND INJURY
Georgia Newbold, 29, was found guilty of child cruelty after neglecting her vulnerable infant, who suffered four broken bones over a six-week period.Despite the obvious pain and injuries, she and Kristjan Brawley left the child at home instead of taking it to a hospital for treatment.
The court heard that the baby’s fractures, including to the left femur, right tibia, and two fractures to the left shinbone, required significant force and caused great pain.
Brawley, of no fixed address, took the baby to hospital once, claiming he sat on the child's leg and heard a crack, but X-rays revealed older injuries.
Both parents denied cruelty but were convicted on December 9 at Hull Crown Court.
Newbold claimed no knowledge of previous injuries and insisted she would never hurt her child, having no prior convictions.
She was sentenced to two and a half years in jail.
Brawley received a sentence of two years and 10 months.
The judge described their neglect as deliberate and noted the injuries would have been obvious to any caregiver.
They remained on bail until sentencing.
