ASHWORTH HOSPITAL EMPLOYEE SACKED AFTER ADMITTING HISTORIC CHILD SEX OFFENCES
A former Mersey Care employee is understood to have been removed from his role with the NHS trust after appearing in court over historic child sexual offences.George Sullivan appeared in Liverpool Crown Court on November 25 charged with three historic offences.
Sullivan, 65, was charged with rape of a male aged 16, causing a child aged 13-15 to watch or look at an image of sexual activity and assaulting a male 13 or over by penetration with part of his body.
All the offences are said to have taken place in the early 2000s.
He is due to be sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on January 16, 2026.
The offences did not relate to Sullivan's work for Mersey Care.
He is believed to have worked at Ashworth Hospital, a specialist psychiatric facility in Maghull, providing assessment, treatment, and care in high-security conditions, including prisoners.
When approached, Mersey Care did not confirm specifics of his employment termination but stated they have supported police investigations and expect high ethical standards from their staff.
