ABERDEEN MAN FACES JAIL FOR THREATENING TO THROW EX’S MUM’S ASHES FROM BALCONY
A man named Gavin Reid was involved in an incident where he threatened to throw his ex partner’s mother’s ashes from a balcony.Reid, aged 34, had been struggling with drug misuse during the lockdown period.
After a night of drinking, he became irate following a phone call with his family and took his anger out on his former partner.
He accused her of stealing tablets, assaulted her by striking her in the face and kicking her, and made a threatening comment about her mother’s ashes, saying, "I’ll kill you next time you do it".
During the early hours, Reid assaulted her on multiple occasions, including striking her and seizing her by the throat, and around 6am, he became aggressive again, shouting and swearing at her, and threatening to throw her mother’s ashes over the balcony.
The victim contacted police at 7:50 am.
Reid pled guilty to a charge of assault and threatening or abusive behaviour at an address on Gardner Road, Aberdeen.
His defence lawyer stated that Reid’s conduct was out of character and linked his actions to his substance misuse during lockdown.
The court, presided over by Sheriff Ian Wallace, deferred sentencing for a social work report and ordered a restriction of liberty assessment.
Reid was remanded into custody until August for the next hearing.
