SOFT JUSTICE FURY AS COP WHO DOWNLOADED CHILD ABUSE PICS LET OFF BY PROSECUTORS
A police officer who downloaded child abuse images was allowed to go free by prosecutors in an example of leniency towards paedophiles.Sgt Gavin Kelly was detained in July 2022 after a tip-off to the National Crime Agency from New Zealand authorities.
Officers discovered pictures and videos of children on devices at his home.
The findings were forwarded to the Crown Prosecution Service, but it decided that the threshold for charging was not fulfilled.
Instead, Kelly underwent a Thames Valley Police disciplinary panel, which determined he would have been dismissed for gross misconduct had he not already resigned.
Further investigations revealed that he allegedly viewed, received, or distributed more than 35 pictures involving sexual activity with children and animals.
Kelly also took a photo of a female officer’s cleavage, which he sent to two colleagues.
Although he denied some allegations, claiming he could not recall downloading the images, possibly due to drinking, he admitted to viewing five illegal images of children, keeping Category A indecent images, and possessing bestiality pictures.
He also admitted to failing to report or disclose the images.
A misconduct panel found all claims proven and banned him from police work.
The panel criticized the demand for such abhorrent material, stating: “The demand for such abhorrent material creates a market for its supply.
Individuals such as Gavin Kelly are fundamental in an illicit chain with the sexual abuse of children at its core.”
