ABERDEEN MAN JAILED FOR UNPROVOKED DOMESTIC ASSAULT WITH BOTTLE AND HOOVER
A violent offender named Gary Selfridge, aged 34, has been sentenced to jail after brutally assaulting his partner with a wine bottle and a hoover.The incident occurred at an address in Aberdeen on September 10, shortly after self and the victim had started a relationship a week prior.
The woman was left with serious injuries, including a 3cm full-thickness laceration on her head that required sutures and will leave a scar, as well as a cut to her eyebrow, bruises, abrasions, swelling, and the ripping out of her thumbnail.
The assault was described as "unprovoked" and was carried out during a drunken rage.
The court heard that Selfridge struck the woman first with the wine bottle and then repeatedly punched her, before hitting her with the hoover.
After the attack, Selfridge left the scene, and police found signs of a disturbance, including blood on the floor.
The woman expressed fear of Selfridge and did not wish to continue their relationship.
Selfridge, who is currently held at HMP Grampian, pled guilty to a domestically aggravated charge of assault causing severe injury and permanent disfigurement.
The court sentenced him to four months to serve on an existing sentence, plus an additional 19 months for the assault, totaling 23 months, with a deduction for time already served.
A five-year non-harassment order was also imposed.
The judge described the attack as "vicious and largely unprovoked," emphasizing the significant injuries inflicted on the victim.
