GARRY CORBETT FROM DREGHORN IN AYRSHIRE SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE AGAINST NATALIE MORGAN

Garry Corbett, a 43-year-old man residing in Dreghorn, Ayrshire, has been found guilty earlier this month of a series of domestic abuse offenses that spanned over three years, from May 2019 to October 2022. The conviction follows a harrowing case brought to light by his victim, Natalie Morgan, who hails from North Ayrshire. Her testimony detailed a prolonged period of psychological torment and physical violence inflicted by Corbett, revealing the extent of his controlling and aggressive behavior.

According to Natalie, Corbett subjected her to a relentless campaign of emotional manipulation and physical assaults. She described how he bombarded her with hundreds of messages daily, attempting to dictate her appearance and behavior, reducing her to what she described as an object or property under his control. Her account paints a picture of a relationship marked by intimidation and coercion, with Corbett’s violence escalating over time.

She recounted specific incidents of brutality, including episodes where he would destroy rooms in their home and become increasingly threatening and violent. One particularly distressing event involved her trying to intervene when Corbett was destroying her son’s drum kit; during this confrontation, she was physically assaulted. The strain of his behavior extended beyond their home, causing her relationships with her family and friends to suffer significantly.

Corbett’s criminal conviction resulted in a community payback order requiring him to complete 200 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, the court issued a restraining order, prohibiting him from approaching Natalie for a period of three years. Natalie shared her feelings of fear and helplessness, stating, “I was terrified of Garry. I was so scared I couldn’t sleep properly. I had an emergency escape plan if something happened– that’s not normal.”

In a disturbing turn of events, Natalie revealed that she married Corbett in 2022 out of fear, just three months before he strangled her after discovering she had multiple profiles on dating apps. She described the wedding as seemingly idyllic in photographs but clarified that her participation was driven by terror rather than love. Her suspicions of Corbett’s infidelity, supported by evidence of his use of dating apps, led to a violent incident where he throttled her, prompting her to seek help from Women’s Aid. Since her arrest, she has been diagnosed with PTSD and continues to recover from her traumatic experiences.

Her ordeal included threats, physical assaults, and acts of destruction, such as smashing her home and strangulation. She recounted how her life was overshadowed by fear, describing moments when she captured images of her kitchen being wrecked. Despite the horrors she endured, Natalie is now committed to moving forward. She has become an advocate for domestic abuse awareness, sharing her story to highlight the importance of protecting victims and calling for legislative changes to improve legal safeguards for those suffering from similar abuse.
