PAEDOPHILE WHO SENT SEX VIDEOS TO 'GIRL' WAS ACTUALLY TALKING TO COP
A man from Newquay, Frankie O'Shea, 37, was sentenced for attempting to engage in sexual communication with a minor after he sent explicit videos of himself to an individual he believed was a 12-year-old girl.However, the person he was talking to was actually an undercover police officer.
O'Shea also tried to persuade the decoy to send nude videos in return and asked her to delete their conversations to avoid detection.
He appeared before Truro Crown Court and admitted to charges of attempting to engage in sexual communications with a child and encouraging a child to take part in sexual acts.
During the trial, prosecutor Nigel Wraith explained that in 2019, police used a social media decoy posing as a young girl and engaged with O'Shea, who used a false name and claimed to be 25 years old.
Despite being told the 'girl' was only 12, O'Shea engaged in inappropriate conversations, including sharing pornography and discussing explicit acts, even sending videos of himself masturbating.
O'Shea asked the decoy to send obscene videos and requested that she delete their exchanges, claiming he wanted to avoid jail.
His lawyer, Rupert Taylor, highlighted his client's remorse and good character before the offense and noted that he had a clean criminal record.
Taylor argued that O'Shea was eager to return to normal life and acknowledged his responsibility, stating the charges had been hanging over him for four years.
O'Shea was jailed for three years.
