FRANK WILSON OF SOUTHVILLE SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE INVOLVING TEEN GIRL IN BRISTOL
In June 2012, a serious case of sexual misconduct involving a factory worker from Southville culminated in a court sentencing that highlighted the gravity of the offense. Frank Wilson, aged 50, was found guilty of engaging in inappropriate sexual contact with a young girl and was subsequently sentenced to a year in prison.According to court proceedings at Bristol Crown Court, Wilson was accused of kissing the girl on her chest and touching her around her private parts. The court heard that these actions caused the girl significant distress, leading to health issues such as difficulty sleeping, emotional trauma, and what was described as 'horrible memories.'
Wilson, whose residence was listed as Coronation Road, Southville, pleaded guilty to two charges related to sexual activity with a child. The judge, Michael Roach, expressed his condemnation of Wilson's actions, emphasizing the devastating impact they had on the victim. As part of his sentence, Wilson was ordered to register as a sex offender for five years and was prohibited from working with children in any capacity.
Prosecutor Richard Posner revealed that the victim was in her mid-teens when Wilson touched her in her pelvic region, an act she confided to her mother. Wilson admitted to the police that he had touched the girl intimately and acknowledged kissing her, although he denied licking her chest. His confession was made during police interviews, where he admitted to being attracted to the girl and described the contact as brief and improper.
During the court hearing, Wilson’s defense attorney, Anita Evans, highlighted that her client was more detailed in his account than the girl’s recollection. She emphasized that Wilson, a man with a previously good character, had only brief contact with the girl and fully accepted responsibility for his actions. Evans also pointed out that the offense was not premeditated and that Wilson had shown genuine remorse.
Mrs. Evans addressed the court in front of a packed gallery, stating, “His remorse is absolutely clear. He recognizes he will need considerable assistance as time goes on. He would be eager to undergo sex offender treatment. This is a hard-working, guilt-ridden, and remorseful man. He has taken his situation extremely seriously. He will live with his actions for the rest of his life.”
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Erika Winbow commented to the Post, “It was very brave of the victim to come forward. She did the right thing.”
