Braintree Child Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Frank Baldwin, a 48-year-old resident of Blackmore End, Braintree, was sentenced to prison after engaging in explicit online conversations with a person he believed to be a 14-year-old girl. The incident unfolded over several months, beginning in January 2021, when Baldwin initiated contact with a decoy profile operated by an online paedophile hunting group.
During their online exchanges, Baldwin made inappropriate remarks about the girl’s appearance, commenting on her profile picture, clothing, and underwear. His conversations quickly took a sinister turn when, in March 2021, he asked the decoy if she had “had a boy between her legs yet,” a question that revealed his disturbing intentions. Throughout the months that followed, Baldwin continued to communicate in a sexually explicit manner, sending her pornographic images and videos, further demonstrating his predatory behavior.
His actions did not go unnoticed for long. In August 2021, members of the online paedophile hunting group tracked him down and confronted him at an allotment in Chippenham, located in East Cambridgeshire. The group’s intervention led to the immediate involvement of Cambridge Police, who responded swiftly to the scene. Baldwin was arrested on the spot, ending his attempt to engage with what he believed was a vulnerable underage girl.
Following his arrest, Baldwin faced legal proceedings at Peterborough Crown Court. On May 12 of this year, he was formally sentenced to two years and two months in prison. Baldwin had previously admitted to charges of attempting to incite a girl under the age of 16 to engage in penetrative sexual activity and attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act. His conviction underscores the serious nature of his offenses and the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat online child exploitation.
