FORHAD FARUQUE SHOCKS NEWCASTLE WITH HORRIFIC CHILD ABUSE IMAGES IN SOUTH SHIELDS

In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the community, Forhad Faruque, a 41-year-old resident of Henry Nelson Street in South Shields, was found to possess a horrifying collection of indecent images depicting the sexual abuse of infants. The police, acting on intelligence and following a thorough investigation, executed a search warrant at Faruque's home on December 29, 2021, as part of their efforts to combat online child exploitation.

During the raid, officers from the Paedophile Online Investigation Team seized multiple electronic devices, including computers and storage media. Faruque cooperated by providing login credentials for a cloud storage account, which investigators accessed to uncover the extent of his illicit material. The evidence revealed a deeply disturbing cache of images and videos, totaling 866 of the most severe category A images, which included 648 videos. Additionally, there were 423 category B images, with 145 videos, and 470 category C images, including 24 videos.

The most heinous aspect of the material involved four videos showing babies aged between one month and three months in states of distress and being subjected to sexual abuse. Prosecutor Nick Lane described the content to Newcastle Crown Court, stating, "The children were a matter of weeks old in some cases, and some of the children are clearly in discernible pain and distress."

Further disturbing details emerged during the court proceedings. Among the images found was one depicting a naked young boy, another showing a young girl, and there was also extreme pornography involving a dog. The nature of the material was described as 'gross' and deeply repulsive, highlighting the severity of Faruque's offenses.

Faruque pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing indecent images, one count of possessing a prohibited image, and another of possessing extreme pornography. His sentencing resulted in a two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, along with a fine of £400. The court also ordered him to register as a sex offender and imposed a sexual harm prevention order that will remain in effect for ten years.

Judge Gavin Doig addressed Faruque directly, emphasizing the gravity of his crimes. He stated, "The offences are gross," and added, "I've read in your letter that you are thoroughly ashamed of yourself, and frankly, so you should be. The details of the images you chose to view are stomach-churning, and anyone listening would think anyone who views such material deserves only one thing: custody." The judge revealed that he initially considered immediate imprisonment but was swayed by Faruque's remorse and background. "You could have no complaints if I imposed an immediate custodial sentence," he remarked.

Defence lawyer Ian Hudson spoke on behalf of Faruque, describing him as a loner and a single man who is willing to engage with efforts to change his behavior. Hudson explained that Faruque had completed a rehabilitation program aimed at preventing future offending and had paid for counseling sessions. He also highlighted that Faruque had suffered trauma during childhood, suggesting that incarceration could make him vulnerable, especially given the potential for exploitation by others in prison.
