Perth Stalker
Ferdi Gul, a former hairdresser from Perth, has been at the center of a disturbing series of behaviors that spanned over several months, causing significant distress and fear to his former partner. His actions, which included invasive stalking and threatening conduct, culminated in a court case that highlighted the seriousness of his persistent misconduct.

One of the most alarming incidents occurred when Gul was found hiding in his ex-girlfriend’s backyard. Witnesses, including her sister, saw Gul lurking behind a trampoline, holding a bottle of whisky and eating a chocolate bar. This sighting prompted her to call for help, as Gul’s presence in the garden was part of a broader pattern of troubling behavior that had been ongoing for approximately seven months. During this period, Gul’s actions were described as a sustained campaign of abuse, which left his former partner feeling increasingly alarmed and fearful for her safety.

On October 11, 2018, the situation escalated further. Gul’s ex-girlfriend’s sister confronted him and saw him with the bottle of whisky and chocolate. Gul responded by declaring, “I love her,” revealing his desire to rekindle their relationship despite the troubling circumstances. Before leaving the garden, Gul made a chilling statement to the sister, saying, “Tonight I kill myself,” which raised immediate concerns about his mental state and intentions. Police were called to a nearby hotel where Gul had taken refuge, and they found him there making threats of self-harm. However, Gul later clarified that he had no intention of hurting himself, though his emotional distress and obsessive love for his ex continued to be evident.

Despite his claims, Gul’s behavior did not cease. He persistently expressed his love and desire to reconnect with his former partner whenever he was near her, leading authorities to believe he was attempting to lure her to visit him at his home. Gul’s history of similar conduct was well-documented; he had previously operated a popular barbershop on South Street in Perth. His troubling pattern included approaching his ex at a house in Perthshire, shouting in Turkish, gesturing aggressively, and banging on windows in an intimidating manner. He also broke court orders by approaching her again, even going so far as to point at his own eyes and then at hers, a gesture indicating he was watching her closely.

Gul’s actions eventually led to legal proceedings. He was found guilty of engaging in conduct that caused his ex-girlfriend to fear or be alarmed. After fleeing to Northern Ireland in an attempt to evade justice, he was apprehended and returned to face charges at Perth Sheriff Court. The sheriff described Gul’s behavior as a “sustained course of conduct” and noted his prior offending record, which included similar episodes of harassment and intimidation.

In sentencing, Gul received an 18-month supervision order. The court also mandated that he participate in offence-focused work, inform his supervising officer of any new relationships, and complete 120 hours of unpaid community service. Additionally, a non-harassment order was issued, prohibiting Gul from approaching his ex-girlfriend for two years. Sheriff James MacDonald emphasized the gravity of Gul’s misconduct, highlighting the persistent nature of his actions, which included threats of self-harm and repeated inappropriate approaches despite court restrictions. The case underscores the serious consequences of stalking and harassment, especially when such conduct endangers the safety and well-being of the victims involved.
