OFFENDER JAILED FOR BRUTAL PENSIONER RAPE IN NELSON
An 18-year-old man named Farhan Ahmed from Park Avenue, Barrowford, was given a life prison term after being found guilty of raping a 64-year-old woman in Nelson.
The court heard that Ahmed broke into her home during the early hours of October 28, 2010, threatened her with a knife, and then assaulted her sexually.
At Burnley Crown Court, the jury convicted him on all charges, and the judge ordered that he must serve at least five years before being considered for parole.
Following the sentencing, the victim spoke out about her strength, saying, “My trust remains, and I believe that his sentencing will give him time to think about what he has done and perhaps feel remorse one day.” Detective Superintendent Ian Critchley emphasized the brutality of the assault, calling it “a brutal, unprovoked attack on a vulnerable elderly lady.” He also acknowledged the bravery of the victim and the contribution of the evidence provided by the community that led to Ahmed’s conviction.
