ABERDEEN OFFSHORE WORKER JAILED FOR CHILD ABUSE MATERIAL
An offshore engineer named Euan Gregor was discovered to have nearly 200 indecent images and videos of children on his devices, with the total video runtime exceeding four hours.Gregor appeared before Aberdeen Sheriff Court, where he admitted to downloading and possessing these indecent images of children.Police found over 180 separate images and videos on devices at his home in Aberdeen.
The content was of the most serious category — often including sadistic material and sexual content involving animals.
In particular, the videos' total duration was over four hours and thirty-eight minutes.Following intelligence received, police executed a warrant at his residence on November 3 last year, seizing two mobile phones, a laptop, and three hard drives.
Gregor acknowledged ownership of these devices and provided passcodes.
Initial investigations revealed indecent images on the devices, with Gregor stating to officers that the images and videos were part of a "social media thing," indicating the swapping of such material between individuals. The devices contained 48 pictures and 134 videos involving children.
Of these, 89 were considered Category A, 13 Category B, and 80 Category C.
The videos involving children had a combined runtime of 4 hours and 38 minutes.
Gregor pleaded guilty to two charges: one of downloading indecent images of children and another of possessing these images. His defence solicitor acknowledged the seriousness of the offences and the impact on his family, noting that he was aware that the court could impose a custodial sentence.
The sheriff described the offences as "extremely concerning" and indicated that custody was a suitable outcome.
However, instead of jail, Gregor was sentenced to a community payback order with supervision for two years, ordered to complete 225 hours of unpaid work, be registered on the sex offender register for two years, and participate in a sex offender program.
