Emrah Orhan made sexual comments to the woman and touched her legs while alone with her in the small steam room. The court was informed that the sexual assault happened when Orhan and the complainant were alone together in the sauna room in Ystradgynlais leisure centre in the Swansea Valley.
The defendant made a series of sexual comments to the woman and then began touching her legs and asking her to touch his penis and asking if he could touch her genitals.
Despite the woman repeatedly telling Orhan to stop the assault continued and only ended when other users entered the sauna.
The matter was then reported to the police.During the sentencing, a probation officer identified 'significant cultural difference and a patriarchal mindset' which can be addressed through intensive work.
Orhan, aged 37 and from Swansea, had previously been convicted of one count of sexual assault and had a history of assault causing actual bodily harm from 2023, involving his former partner.
At the time of this offence, he was subject to a suspended sentence. The judge, Catherine Richards, emphasized that the victim had been vulnerable, dressed in swimwear, and in a confined space with the defendant.
The victim was said to have 'frozen' in fear during the assault.
The court sentenced Orhan to 10 months in prison for sexual assault, activating 10 weeks of a previously suspended sentence to run concurrently.
He will serve up to half his sentence in custody, followed by release on licence, and will be a registered sex offender for the next 10 years.
