COVENTRY MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL HARASSMENT ON TRAIN
Elvis Gaskin, a man from Ryton-on-Dunsmore just outside Coventry, committed a serious sexual offence on May 11.
He was traveling on a train between Port Talbot and Cardiff when he made sexually explicit remarks to a woman who was travelling alone.
Feeling threatened and vulnerable, the victim moved to another carriage and alerted train staff.
British Transport Police officers met the train at Cardiff Central and arrested Gaskin, who was found to be carrying a folding pocket knife.
Subsequently, Gaskin pleaded guilty at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court to possession of a bladed article and causing intentional harassment, alarm, or distress.
He was sentenced to four months in prison, ordered to pay £115 in compensation and £85 in court costs.
PC Ceri Frost of the British Transport Police praised the victim for her courage and emphasized that no one should be subjected to unwelcome sexual behavior on the rail network or anywhere else.
Gaskin's actions caused significant distress to the victim, who now feels uncomfortable traveling alone due to the incident.
