ELLIS HODGES FROM HEREFORD ADDED TO SEX OFFENDERS' REGISTER
In November 2009, a teenage male from Hereford named Ellis Hodges was placed on the sex offenders' register for five years after admitting to exposing himself and sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl.Hodges is now prohibited from approaching females under 16, as well as from exposing himself or lowering his waistband in public spaces.
Hereford magistrates heard details of his offenses, which included incidents involving a 17-year-old jogger and the 15-year-old girl, who described running as fast as she could after Hodges pinched her bottom.
Prosecutor Louise Mead explained that in August, the 15-year-old girl and a friend were crossing a bridge on Great Western Way. The girls ran home after Hodges became abusive, saying he would have sex with one of them.
Later that month, Hodges approached two 17-year-olds in a play area of a city park. Although the girls initially tried to dismiss his advances with laughter, they attempted to leave when Hodges cycled in front of them and exposed himself in a "smirking and arrogant" manner, Ms. Mead stated.
Another incident occurred in July when a girl out for a run on the outskirts of Hereford was approached by Hodges, who put his hands down his trousers and asked her to go into a nearby field. She panicked and called her mother before running home; Hodges cycled away afterwards.
Defending Hodges, Matt Lewis said that his client was embarrassed by his actions and fully accepted responsibility. He argued that a supervision order was the only appropriate outcome, stating, "He is prepared to work with people for the specific purpose of addressing the issues of these actions and to ensure there is never a re-occurrence."
Lewis also mentioned that Hodges had offered to apologise to his victims in writing, although it was uncertain whether the victims would welcome such gestures.
At an earlier hearing, magistrates sentenced Hodges to an 18-month community and supervision order after he pleaded guilty to two counts of exposure and one of sexual assault. Additionally, he is banned from child play areas and Great Western Way, and he has been ordered to pay £85 in costs.
