MAN SENTENCED TO 8 YEARS FOR CHILD SEX CRIMES IN HINTON MARTELL
Detectives investigating a sex abuse case have emphasized the importance of victims overcoming their fear of reporting their experiences.Their investigation has resulted in the conviction and imprisonment of Eifion Wynne Jones, aged 41, who was sentenced to 8 years for two rapes and two indecent assaults on a young girl.
The offences occurred between 1993 and 1995, when the victim was between 12 and 13 years old.
Jones, who previously resided in Hinton Martell, denied all 16 charges but was found guilty of each after a jury at Bournemouth Crown Court deliberated.
The girl, now 19, was unable to be named publicly and gave her evidence from behind a screen to protect her identity.
She showed incredible strength through a harrowing four-day trial, which involved extensive cross-examination.
An officer from the Child Protection Unit highlighted the emotional toll on the victim, noting she was examined for over five and a half hours, but her resilience led to justice being served.
The officer stated that even after a six-year gap since the offences, witnesses can still be found, and convictions obtained, stressing the importance of timely reporting.
The judge’s sentence reflects the severity of the crimes, and the case underscores that victims are supported and encouraged to come forward, which can aid in their healing process.
The offender, Eifion Wynne Jones, was also charged with additional offences he was cleared of, including counts of rape and indecent assault from an earlier period (1987-1990).
