EDWARD WHITE FROM HEMINGFORD ABBOTS BANNED FROM CAMBRIDGESHIRES FEN DRAYTON LAKES FOR FIVE YEARS
In a significant development in local crime prevention efforts, a registered sex offender named Edward White has been legally restricted from visiting the scenic Fen Drayton Lakes in Cambridgeshire for a period of five years. This measure was enforced through the issuance of a criminal behaviour order (CBO), marking a historic first for Cambridgeshire police in terms of such legal action against a registered sex offender.Edward White, aged 41 and residing on Common Lane in Hemingford Abbots, was previously sentenced at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on August 13. He received a three-month prison sentence, which was suspended for two years, after he pleaded guilty to an act of outraging public decency committed at Fen Drayton Lakes on March 27. The court's decision reflected the seriousness with which the authorities viewed his conduct and the need to impose strict measures to prevent any recurrence.
Following this, on Wednesday, October 28, the same court issued a comprehensive five-year court order against White. This order explicitly prohibits him from entering Fen Drayton Lakes and engaging in any sexual activities or conduct that could pose a risk to the public. The order is part of a broader strategy to monitor and manage individuals with a history of sexual offenses, especially in areas frequented by families and outdoor enthusiasts.
Decca Riondino, a detective constable from the public protection unit of Cambridgeshire police, emphasized the importance of this legal action. She stated, “This court order is a first for our department. Given the nature of White’s offending, a CBO was the only way for us to continue monitoring and managing him. With this court order in place for the next five years, we will be able to keep tabs on White and minimize further risk to the public. Any reports of him breaching his CBO will be dealt with robustly.”
Authorities have made it clear that any violation of this court order will be met with swift and decisive action, underscoring their commitment to public safety and the prevention of further offenses in the Cambridgeshire area, particularly around the popular outdoor location of Fen Drayton Lakes.
