EDWARD SCOTT SENTENCED FOR FATAL ASSAULT IN HULL

In a tragic case that has shocked the community of Hull, Edward Scott, aged 63, has been convicted and sentenced for a violent assault that resulted in the death of his long-term partner, Carole Forth. The incident took place within the confines of their shared residence in Hull, where Scott physically attacked Ms. Forth, leading to her untimely demise.

According to court proceedings held at Sheffield Crown Court, the assault occurred in 2018 and involved Scott strangling Ms. Forth, who was 56 years old at the time. The court heard that Scott, in a moment of frustration and annoyance, had grabbed Ms. Forth around her neck and shaken her. This act was reportedly triggered by her intoxicated state, as she was heavily under the influence of alcohol. Prosecutors revealed that Ms. Forth was nearly five times the legal alcohol limit, with a blood alcohol concentration of 388 mg per 100 ml, indicating a long-standing alcohol problem that contributed to the tragic events.

During the sentencing, it was disclosed that Scott initially denied any involvement in causing her death. However, he later admitted to law enforcement officials that he had shaken her and explicitly stated that he had placed his hands around her throat. The court was informed that after discovering Ms. Forth unresponsive, Scott called emergency services but continued to deny that he had caused her death. It was only later that he confided in a relative, admitting that he had shaken her and gesturing that he had put his hands on her throat.

Judge Roger Thomas QC emphasized that Scott’s actions—specifically grabbing Ms. Forth around her neck with enough force to suffocate her—were the direct cause of her death. While Scott did not have the intent to kill her, the unlawful act of assault was sufficient to result in her tragic death. The judge highlighted the severity of the case, noting that Scott’s conduct was a clear breach of the law and had devastating consequences.

It was also noted during the proceedings that Ms. Forth was a dedicated police community support officer with over ten years of service, making her loss even more poignant for the community and her colleagues. The court’s sentence of six years in prison reflects the gravity of the offence and the tragic outcome of Scott’s violent actions, underscoring the importance of accountability in cases of domestic violence and assault leading to death.
