EDWARD, ROSAMUND, AND WILLIAM DUNN FROM EXBOURNE PLEAD GUILTY TO CATTLE NEGLECT CASE

A family involved in farming activities from the village of Exbourne has been found guilty of serious neglect charges concerning their cattle. The trio, consisting of Edward Dunn, aged 79, Rosamund Dunn, aged 76, and William Dunn, aged 49, appeared before Exeter Magistrates’ Court to face multiple allegations related to the welfare of their livestock.

During proceedings held on Thursday, February 27, all three individuals admitted to the charges brought against them. Edward and Rosamund each accepted ten counts of neglect, while William acknowledged 24 separate charges. The accusations detailed that the neglect was severe enough to cause the animals pain, suffering, injury, and disease, highlighting the gravity of the situation.

The incidents in question occurred over a span of several months, specifically during November 2023, December 2023, and January 2024. The court heard that the neglect was linked to their operations at two farms: Underdown Farm and East Barton Farm, both located within the Exbourne area.

Following the guilty pleas, the case was adjourned to April 15, when a pre-sentence report will be prepared for all three defendants. The court’s decision aims to ensure a thorough assessment of the circumstances surrounding the neglect and to determine appropriate sentencing measures. The case has drawn attention to the importance of animal welfare and the responsibilities of farmers in maintaining proper standards of care for their livestock.
