OFFENDER JAILED FOR VIOLENT ATTACK ON MOTHER IN NEWBIGGIN HALL
A 22-year-old man named Edward Castor has been jailed following a violent attack on his mother at her home in Newbiggin Hall.
The incident, which occurred in January, involved Castor getting drunk and verbally abusing his mother before turning violent.
He began smashing household items, threw hot oil at her causing burns to her face, and bit her arm and wrist.
Castor also assaulted her by grabbing and throwing her around, and then caused nearly £2,000 worth of damage to her property by smashing belongings with a hammer.
When police arrived to arrest him, he resisted fiercely, kicking and attempting to bite officers, and headbutted two of them.
Castor has a criminal history with four previous convictions for eight offenses, including assault and criminal damage against his mother.
At court, Castor pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm, criminal damage, breaching a restraining order, and two counts of assaulting emergency workers.
He was sentenced to 17 months in prison and was ordered to adhere to a new three-year restraining order, which prohibits him from contacting his mother.
The court heard that Castor, who was on remand, showed remorse for his actions and expressed a desire to change.
Despite this, the judge emphasized the damaging impact of his actions, stating that his disorderly rampage had blighted his mother's life.
