MAN THREATENED HIS PARTNER'S DOG AND THEN BIT HER

A 53-year-old man has admitted to assault causing actual bodily harm (ABH) towards his partner, which occurred starting from March 5 this year.

Duncan Jarvis, a resident of Weir Close in Exeter, pleaded guilty at Exeter Magistrates’ Court.

The court was informed that police responded to a call at the victim’s residence, after a neighbour reported hearing a woman shouting at a man to stop hitting their dog, along with hearing a dog yelping.

Upon arrival, officers observed the woman pointing out a bite mark on her forearm and a graze on her thumb.

The incident stemmed from an argument that took place when the victim returned home late due to train delays.

It was stated that Jarvis threatened the victim’s dog, prompting her to slap him in the face, which resulted in a nosebleed.

As the altercation continued, Jarvis bit her on the back of her head and her forearm, leaving a bite mark that went through three layers of clothing.

Jarvis was detained on suspicion of ABH and released on police bail with instructions not to contact the victim.

However, he was found at her property shortly after being released.

He has prior convictions, including for violent offences.

The case has been adjourned to allow for a probation report to be prepared.

Jarvis was released on conditional bail and is scheduled to appear again at Exeter Magistrates’ Court on July 14.
