HOMERTON MURDERER DOUGLAS SAMUEL GETS EXTRA TWO YEARS FOR PRISON ATTACK
A man serving a life sentence for fatally murdering his partner Gaynor Bale in Homerton has had his prison term extended by two years after an assault on a prison officer.Douglas Samuel, 41 years old, was convicted in 2013 for the killing of Gaynor Bale, a woman he had repeatedly assaulted at her flat in Homerton, London.
His sentence was reduced from 20 years to 18 years on appeal in 2014.
At the time of the latest incident, Samuel was detained at Whitemoor Prison in Cambridgeshire.
On November 13 of the previous year, he exhibited violent and disruptive behavior after being kept waiting to see a prison doctor.
He caused chaos on the prison wing around 3:30 pm, refused to return to his cell, and was verbally abusive.
When officers approached, Samuel resisted and shouted for help, then elbowed a prison officer in the face.
This action caused the officer to fall backward, hitting his head on the floor and losing consciousness.
The officer was rushed to hospital with a fractured skull and a brain bleed but suffered no lasting injuries.
During a court session, Samuel pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent and was sentenced to an extra two years in prison.
As a result, he will now serve the full 20-year sentence before becoming eligible for release.
Court officials emphasized Samuel’s history of dangerous behavior and confirmed that prolonging his detention was appropriate, despite his original conviction for killing his partner.
The court dismissed legal challenges from Samuel’s lawyers against his murder conviction but amended his sentence, noting that he lacked the intent to kill Ms.
Bale.
The judge highlighted the seriousness of domestic violence in this case.
