SCOTTISH SUPPORT WORKER GUILTY OF CRUELTY TO CHILDREN AT NAZARETH HOUSE

Dorothy Kane, who was employed as a support worker at Nazareth House in Lasswade, Midlothian, was found guilty of cruelly and unnaturally treating children in her care between March 1980 and August 1981.
She dragged one child along a corridor and restrained him by placing her knees on his chest, and also failed to step in when witnessing a member of staff assault the boy.
Kane was convicted of forcing one child into a cupboard and locking him in there for a period of time, and was cleared of two further charges.
Sheriff Iain Nicol granted her bail and deferred sentencing for social work reports to the following month.
