DOMINIC DUNNE FROM ROMILEY SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES IN GREATER MANCHESTER
In a significant case that has shocked the community of Romiley and the wider Greater Manchester area, Dominic Dunne, a former police officer, was handed a substantial prison sentence after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences. The sentencing took place at Preston Combined Court on a Monday in May 2019, where Dunne, aged 26, was found guilty on several counts, including two charges of sexual assault, voyeurism, and the possession of indecent images of a child.Following his conviction, Dunne was sentenced to seven years behind bars. In addition to his prison term, he will be required to remain on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life. Furthermore, he will be subject to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, which is designed to restrict his activities and prevent further offending.
Dunne’s arrest occurred in November 2017, when authorities detained him at his residence on St Johns Close in Romiley. An extensive investigation into his digital devices revealed disturbing evidence: a collection of photographs and videos depicting a teenage girl engaged in sexual activities with him. These images included explicit footage of Dunne sexually assaulting the girl, as well as other photographs taken without her consent or when she was unaware that she was being photographed.
The case has garnered considerable attention due to the nature of the offences and the fact that Dunne was a serving police officer at the time of his arrest. It has raised questions about the breach of trust and the safeguarding responsibilities expected of law enforcement personnel.
While serving his sentence, Dunne has reportedly been assigned to work as a painter within the prison. He is also trained as a listener, a role in which inmates support each other and provide peer support, indicating that he remains within the prison’s employment and support programs during his incarceration.
