On Friday, May 14th, a significant development unfolded in Preston as two men were formally sentenced to lengthy prison terms following a detailed and complex investigation into a series of heinous crimes involving the grooming, exploitation, and sexual assault of vulnerable young women.

The operation, known as Operation Command, was initiated in 2019 after multiple reports surfaced concerning sexual assaults committed against several girls in the Preston area. Over the course of the investigation, law enforcement authorities gathered substantial evidence, leading to the arrest and subsequent prosecution of two individuals accused of multiple serious offences.

One of the convicted men, Amos Ocheng, aged 51 and residing on Winckley Square in Preston, was found guilty after a trial of multiple charges. These included the rape of three young girls, trafficking offences, and the supply of drugs. All the victims involved in these crimes were girls aged between 14 and 19 at the time the offences occurred. Ocheng’s criminal activities were characterized by a pattern of predatory behavior, targeting vulnerable minors for his own gratification.

The second man, Dickson Ngaunde, aged 27 and living on Stanford Avenue in Brighton, Sussex, was also convicted during the same trial. Ngaunde was found guilty of raping a 19-year-old woman. Disturbingly, authorities recovered footage from Ngaunde’s mobile phone that clearly depicted him engaging in sexual activity with the unconscious victim, highlighting the severity and depravity of his actions. All these offences took place within Preston in the year 2019.

In sentencing, Amos Ocheng received a total of 27 years in prison and was classified as a dangerous offender, reflecting the gravity of his crimes and the threat he posed to society. Dickson Ngaunde was sentenced to ten years behind bars. The impact of their crimes has been devastating for the victims, with many suffering long-term trauma. Some victims have described the profound psychological scars inflicted upon them, including one who attempted to take her own life and another who was rendered homeless as a direct consequence of the abuse.

Leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Steve Holgate emphasized the disturbing pattern of behavior exhibited by both men. He stated, “There was a pattern of behaviour indulged in by both these men where young, vulnerable females are befriended for one singular purpose, their own sexual gratification.”

He also praised the bravery of the victims, acknowledging the difficulty they faced in reliving their traumatic experiences during the trial process. “I would like to commend first and foremost the bravery of the young women who have reported these offences and gone through the trial process – it cannot have been an easy experience to relive what was done to them but these convictions would not have been possible without them and I am grateful for what they have done,” Holgate said.

The detective chief inspector further expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Crown Prosecution Service, the legal counsel involved, and the jury members who carefully examined the evidence and delivered guilty verdicts. He also issued a call to action, encouraging anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault to come forward. Holgate reassured the public that all reports are taken seriously and that law enforcement agencies are committed to conducting thorough, sensitive, and supportive investigations. Support services are available to assist victims through the process, ensuring they receive the appropriate help and justice they deserve.
