Deven Huteson, a 26-year-old resident of Hull, has been found guilty of a series of severe and disturbing crimes committed against a woman over a span of four weeks. The conviction came after a detailed five-day trial held at Hull Crown Court, where the jury and judge carefully examined the evidence and testimonies presented.Huteson was convicted on multiple counts, including the heinous charges of rape, assault by penetration, assault causing actual bodily harm, assault by beating, and coercive and controlling behaviour. These offences paint a disturbing picture of the violence and manipulation inflicted upon the victim, highlighting the severity of his actions. The court responded to these grave offences by imposing a substantial sentence of 15 years in prison. Additionally, Huteson will serve an extended five-year period on licence following his release, ensuring continued supervision and restrictions on his freedom.
Furthermore, the court mandated that Huteson register as a sex offender for life, a measure designed to protect the community and monitor his activities long-term. It is noteworthy that prior to this trial, Huteson had already admitted to other criminal acts, including assault by beating, criminal damage, and malicious communications, which further underscore his pattern of violent and antisocial behaviour.
Detective Constable Melissa Bell of Humberside Police described Huteson as an 'extremely dangerous offender' who demonstrated no remorse for his actions. She commended the victim for her remarkable bravery in coming forward and recounting her traumatic experience during the trial, emphasizing the importance of her courage in seeking justice. The police's intervention led to Huteson’s arrest and subsequent detention, removing him from the streets and preventing him from causing further harm to others. His removal from the community marks a significant step in safeguarding the public and ensuring that justice is served for the victim.
