In November 2008, Derek Myers, a 42-year-old father of five from Bredbury, Stockport, was sentenced to five years in prison for multiple sexual offences. Myers admitted to engaging in sexual activities with schoolgirls, includingi enticing them to his lock-up garage where he had sex with one of them. He pled guilty at Manchester Crown Court to charges of child abduction, sexual activity with a girl under 16, six counts of sexual assault, inciting a girl under 16 to participate in sexual acts, and possession of imitation firearms and knives.

Myers had been known to police for his 'inappropriate friendships' with minors and had previously been warned about his behavior. He committed some of his assaults in his car, including once performing a sex act in front of girls. He was detained after authorities rescued a missing girl from his locked garage.

At the time of his arrest, Myers was living in his van and in a garage lock-up following his separation from his spouse in early 2007. During the investigation, police found imitation submachine guns and large hunting knives in his vehicle.

Judge Timothy Mort sentenced Myers, stating that he will be required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
