MAN SENTENCED TO 3 YEARS FOR DOMESTIC ABUSE IN EASTER ROSS
Police Scotland has announced the sentencing of Derek Mackay following a severe assault on a woman in Easter Ross.
Mackay, aged 34, was convicted and sentenced on Monday, 15 March, 2021, at Inverness Sheriff Court, to serve three years in prison.
Additionally, he has been subjected to a three-year non-harassment order.
The criminal acts took place in September 2020.
Detective Inspector Craig Still from Police Scotland’s CID unit stated: "Derek MacKay’s offending was both physical and emotional and he will now have to face the consequences of his actions." He emphasized that this sentence sends a strong message that such crimes are unacceptable and will be investigated thoroughly.
The detective praised the bravery of the victim and expressed hope that they could now move past the incident.
He reaffirmed Police Scotland’s commitment to combating domestic abuse and urged victims or concerned individuals to contact police via 101 or CrimeStoppers at 0800 555 111, maintaining anonymity if preferred.
