A man who viewed and discussed more than 1,790 indecent images of children over several years has avoided imprisonment after being sentenced to a community order.

Derek Dinsdale, aged 59, admitted to possessing and viewing illegal images, many of which were classified at the most severe level.

The court issued a warning that any future offending would result in a prison sentence.

Additionally, he was ordered to attend a sex offenders’ course and to register on the sex offenders’ register.
