DENNIS IGO FROM BRONINGTON ESCAPES PRISON DESPITE HAVING OVER 255,000 CHILD ABUSE IMAGES
In a case that has shocked the local community of Bronington, Dennis Michael Igo, aged 53, was found to possess an astonishing collection of indecent images of children, totaling more than 255,000 files stored on his computer. Despite the severity of the charges, Igo narrowly avoided an immediate prison sentence, instead receiving a suspended term after admitting to the possession and creation of these illicit materials. The proceedings took place at Mold Crown Court, where it was revealed that the extent of Igo's collection was even larger than initially believed, with authorities suggesting that there could be many more images beyond the quarter of a million identified. The court heard that Igo, a man described as a successful businessman, had fallen into a deep addiction to pornography, which was triggered by personal financial hardships that he did not cause himself. It was reported that he had lost his entire life savings, a blow that contributed to his mental and emotional distress.
Adding to his personal struggles, Igo was also dealing with the aftermath of his wife’s health issues, as she underwent treatment and surgery for breast cancer. These circumstances painted a picture of a man in a very dark place, grappling with multiple sources of stress and trauma.
According to police statements, Igo admitted that his descent into viewing child pornography began after encountering such sites during an internet search. He confessed that he started viewing these images and videos, which led to a compulsive addiction that consumed several hours each day—sometimes up to three or four hours. His actions, the court was told, involved not only viewing but also the creation of indecent images of children aged between five and 14, spanning from January 2006 to March 2013.
In total, Igo was found to possess 255,667 indecent images and 834 movies. The material included extremely graphic content, with some images depicting sexual acts involving children and animals, including horses and dogs, which added to the gravity of his offenses.
Judge Niclas Parry acknowledged the disturbing nature of Igo’s actions but also recognized the exceptional circumstances surrounding his case. The judge emphasized that Igo was viewing material that depicted real suffering and abuse inflicted upon children. Despite this, the court considered that Igo’s mental state and personal hardships warranted a more lenient approach. The probation service recommended that he could be managed safely within the community, leading to a sentence that was both lenient and rehabilitative.
Consequently, Igo was sentenced to two years in prison, but this was suspended for two years, meaning he would not serve time unless he committed further offenses within that period. Additionally, he was ordered to complete 300 hours of unpaid community work and to attend 36 sessions of a specialized internet sex offender treatment program. The court also mandated that Igo register as a sex offender with the police for a period of ten years and imposed a comprehensive sexual offences prevention order for the same duration. One of the key restrictions was a ban on downloading any images of children from the internet in the future.
During the court proceedings, Igo pleaded guilty to 16 charges, which included making and possessing indecent images of children, as well as possessing extreme material involving sexual acts with animals such as horses and dogs. His defense lawyer, Nicholas Williams, explained that his client had acted under significant stress and expressed relief that the case was resolved following his arrest. Williams also noted that Igo had sought help and counseling to address his issues and was motivated to confront the root causes of his behavior. However, Igo was unable to provide a clear explanation for why he engaged in such activities, leaving many questions unanswered about his motives and mental state.
