DENIS MAUGER JAILED FOR NINE YEARS IN BUCKINGHAMSHIRE CHILD SEXABUSE CASE

A 75-year-old man, Denis Mauger of Chapel Lane, Chilton, has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being convicted of multiple sexual offences against a young girl in Buckinghamshire during the 1970s. Mauger was found guilty on January 22 by a jury of six counts of indecent assault against a female child, with the verdict delivered unanimously. The offences took place between 1971 and 1980, when the victim was aged between six and 15.

The crimes came to light after they were reported to Thames Valley Police in 2017. Mauger was subsequently charged in July 2018. At Aylesbury Crown Court, the judge handed down the sentence, concluding the trial.

Detective Constable Collette Parker, from the Child Abuse Investigation Unit at Aylesbury, expressed her gratitude to the victim: "I would like to thank the victim for her courage, bravery and determination throughout the investigation, through to the trial. It has been an extremely traumatic time for her and I hope that the unanimous guilty verdicts and the sentence given bring her some closure."

She also praised prosecuting counsel Kim Preston for her efforts in securing the conviction. Detective Parker emphasized the ongoing commitment of the Child Abuse Investigation Unit in holding offenders accountable and encouraged anyone who has experienced childhood sexual abuse to come forward and report it to the police.
