DELVIN COX FROM EGLASKERRY IN CORNWALL FACES JAIL FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES IN DEVON
In August 2020, a disturbing case emerged involving Delvin Cox, a 39-year-old man from Egloskerry near Launceston in Cornwall, who was accused of grooming and engaging in sexual activities with a 14-year-old girl in West Devon. The case drew significant attention as Cox traveled from his home in Cornwall to meet the young girl in her local village, highlighting the disturbing nature of the offenses.Delvin Cox appeared before Plymouth Crown Court to face charges related to his conduct between March and July of that year. He pleaded guilty to seven counts of sexual activity with a child, as well as to engaging in sexual communication with a minor during the same period. The court proceedings revealed that Cox had solicited nude photographs from the girl and discussed sexual acts with her, which underscores the predatory behavior involved in the case.
During the hearing, it was disclosed that Cox had a criminal record, including two previous convictions unrelated to the current charges. The last of these was for common assault, dating back to 2005. His defense attorney, Ali Rafati, requested a probation report, but Judge James Townsend rejected this application, citing the need for more time to obtain a statement from the victim regarding the emotional and psychological impact of Cox’s actions.
Judge Townsend ordered Cox to remain in custody until the sentencing hearing scheduled for Thursday, August 27. The judge emphasized the severity of the crimes, stating, “A substantial prison sentence is inevitable,” reflecting the gravity of grooming and sexual offenses against minors.
It was also noted that Cox admitted to traveling to the girl’s village, which Plymouth Live has chosen not to identify to protect her privacy. He confessed to having sexual encounters with her on multiple occasions, further aggravating his case. As part of his sentence, Cox was barred from working with children in any capacity and was ordered to sign the Sex Offender Register for a period that will be determined at sentencing, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his conduct in the future.
