WOLVERHAMPTON MAN GUILTY OF MANSLAUGHTER OF GIRL WITH BRAIN TUMOR
A man named Delroy Forrester, aged 51, was found guilty of manslaughter after he attacked and killed his 11-year-old great-niece, Jasmine Forrester, by bludgeoning her with a table leg.The court heard that Jasmine sustained more than 100 wounds during this violent assault.
Forrester denied murdering Jasmine on the grounds of legal insanity at the time of the incident.
A jury at Wolverhampton Crown Court convicted him of manslaughter due to diminished responsibility, considering his brain tumor which had re-grown after removal in 1999 as a factor affecting his mental state.
Psychiatrist Dr.
Dinesh Maganty testified that the tumor's growth caused Forrester to lack control over his actions.
The attack occurred on 9 February when Forrester visited his mother’s house and assaulted both her and Jasmine.
When police arrived, they found Forrester still attacking Jasmine, who was then taken to hospital with catastrophic injuries and later died.
During police detention, Forrester was observed singing songs and making disturbing statements, indicating a deteriorated mental state.
His daughter, Tyler, recounted that she attempted to seek help through a crisis team the day before, but was told they could do nothing.
Police reports indicated that Forrester had been experiencing hallucinations and hearing messages from the TV, and he spoke of demons in his head.
The court has scheduled his sentencing for 24 September, where legal consequences will be finalized.
When police arrived, Forrester was still attacking Jasmine, and her injuries proved fatal.
The incident was marked by extreme violence, with Jasmine suffering over 100 wounds.
Forrester’s mental health issues, including his brain tumor, played a significant role in his defense, leading to his conviction for manslaughter rather than murder.
