CONVICTED ANIMAL ABUSER DELLA PAGE FROM PANGBOURNE, BERKSHIRE, WHOSE DOG DIED FROM HORRIFIC INJURIES - CAUSE UNEXPLAINED.
The court was told Page took the dog, Tallulah, to the vet in November 2024, booking a “general health check” just 30 minutes before arrival.She brought the dog wrapped in a blanket, and a vet noted that “The dog looked really unwell and extremely lethargic if not unconscious.” Page reportedly told the vet: “I think my dog is dead.” The vet noticed clotted blood at the back of her tongue and bloody fluid from her rear end.
Examinations revealed she had suffered a rib fracture and internal bleeding, described as “indicative of a severe trauma to the abdomen.” Despite efforts by veterinary staff to resuscitate Tallulah, she was pronounced dead.
Page later said Tallulah had been “a bit wobbly” that morning.
When offered a post-mortem, she said she “preferred to believe it was a heart attack,” but later agreed.
The vet added: “This incident appeared unusual because Tallulah had only been 3 years 8 months and appeared to be in normal, healthy condition.” The report concluded that Tallulah had suffered “severe trauma to the abdomen,” resulting in internal bleeding.
While it was not confirmed how the rib fracture occurred, the vet said other injuries had been sustained before the visit.
RSPCA Inspector Simon Hoggett said: “Our investigation found that Tallulah suffered some awful injuries.
“Although we don’t know exactly how they were inflicted, we do know they caused severe suffering and resulted in her sad and premature death.
“No animal should have to fall victim to this kind of treatment.
“The variety and extent of the injuries were dreadful.
“I’m just happy that Tallulah has received some kind of justice with the prosecution and court’s decision to impose a long disqualification on her owner.”
