Crawley Redhill Rapist
Deane Clayton, aged 37 and a resident of Northgate in Crawley, has been handed a significant prison sentence following a serious criminal case that unfolded in Surrey. On January 26, Clayton was sentenced to three years behind bars after a court trial held at Guildford Crown Court. In addition to his prison term, he was ordered to register as a sex offender indefinitely and was mandated to maintain a strict distance from the victim involved in the incident.

The case against Clayton was built on a disturbing series of events that took place late one August evening. According to reports from Surrey Police, Clayton followed a woman from the town center of Redhill around 11 pm. The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was subjected to a frightening assault outside her residence in Surrey. As she attempted to enter her home, Clayton approached her aggressively, grabbing her around the neck in a threatening manner. The assault escalated as he inappropriately touched her and then proceeded to expose himself, actions that caused her significant distress and fear.

Despite the assault, the woman managed to break free from Clayton’s grip and sought help. She attempted to attract attention by waving down passing vehicles, but unfortunately, she was unable to secure immediate assistance. Recognizing the urgency of her situation, she then knocked on the door of a nearby neighbor’s house, which was illuminated and appeared occupied. The residents of that home responded promptly, allowing her inside and calling the police to report the incident.

Law enforcement officers responded swiftly to her description of the suspect and the area where the assault occurred. Their search led them to Clayton, who was found at the Redhill bus station. He was immediately taken into custody without incident. The following day, Clayton was formally charged with the crimes and remained in police custody as the legal process continued.

This case highlights the serious nature of sexual offenses and the importance of swift police action in protecting victims. Clayton’s sentencing reflects the court’s stance on such crimes, emphasizing the need for offenders to face appropriate consequences and for victims to receive justice and support.
