DEAN RUTTER FROM ABENBURY WRECKS LIVES IN SHOCKING SEX OFFENSES IN WREXHAM AND TENBY
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the communities of Wrexham and Tenby, Dean Peter Rutter, a 41-year-old man from Abenbury near Wrexham, has been convicted and sentenced for a series of heinous sexual offenses involving young boys. The gravity of his crimes, which spanned several years, was laid bare in court, revealing a pattern of predatory behavior that included threats, deception, and exploitation.Rutter admitted to a total of 20 sex-related charges, which encompassed sexual assault, rape, attempted rape, and causing a child to engage in sexual activity. The victims, four boys some of whom were under the age of 10, endured not only physical abuse but also threats of violence, which served to silence them and prolong the abuse over an extended period. The court heard that Rutter’s actions were driven by a disturbing attraction to young boys, and he showed no remorse, openly stating that he was not bothered by what he had done and that he would continue if given the chance.
Following his arrest, Rutter attempted to evade justice by faking his own suicide. He left a note at his home claiming he had taken an overdose and intended to hang himself. However, just ten days later, police traced his mobile phone signal to a hotel in Tenby, where he was found alive and well. This act of deception added to the severity of his crimes and demonstrated a blatant disregard for the law and the victims involved.
In court, Rutter’s defense acknowledged the seriousness of his offenses. His lawyer, Henry Hills, stated, “It beholds me to acknowledge the extremely grave nature of the offences and the harm that has been caused.” He also pointed out that Rutter had taken full responsibility by pleading guilty to all charges, which was considered a mitigating factor. Despite this, the judge, Niclas Parry, emphasized the monstrous nature of Rutter’s crimes, describing his offending as “only be[ing] described as monstrous examples of sexual abuse.”
Judge Parry sentenced Rutter to 18 years in prison, with a further 12 months on license upon his release. The court also ordered Rutter to register as a sex offender for life and imposed a lifetime sexual harm prevention order, which restricts him from having unsupervised contact with boys under the age of 16. The judge made it clear that Rutter’s release would only occur if the parole board deemed it safe, underscoring the severity of his crimes and the potential risk he poses to society.
Prior to this sentencing, Rutter’s case had been adjourned from a previous hearing in November 2016, where he admitted to 15 charges after a reduction from an initial 29 allegations. At that time, he was remanded in custody pending sentencing, which was scheduled to take place at Caernarfon Crown Court. The court had initially been prepared to sentence him last Thursday, but the absence of victim impact statements led to the adjournment, as the court needed a complete understanding of the harm caused before proceeding.
Rutter’s criminal activities have left a lasting scar on the victims and the communities of Wrexham and Tenby. His actions serve as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and the need for robust measures to protect vulnerable children from predators like him, whose predatory behavior has now been brought to justice.
