HADDENHAM MAN RECEIVES SUSPENDED SENTENCE AFTER DANGEROUS ARREST AND HARASSMENT
A MAN who attempted to seize a police officer's pistol holster during his arrest on Christmas Eve has been sentenced to a six-month jail term, suspended for two years.Dean Robins, who also pleaded guilty to harassing his former partner Tracy Drever, is now subject to a two-year restraining order.
Under the terms of this order, Robins must avoid contact with Ms Drever and not go to her residence in Sutton.
He is also required to participate in a domestic abuse programme, pay 250 compensation to his ex-partner, and cover 100 in court costs.
The police were summoned following an argument between Robins and Ms Drever, during which officers found him at his brother’s home.
He brandished a baton and threatened the officers, saying: "If you are coming in, you are going to get this." During a struggle, Robins attempted to grab a police officer's holster for his pistol.
The police used a baton, pepper spray, and a taser stun gun to control him.
While in the police van, Robins made three phone calls to Ms Drever, during one of which he told her: "You are going to get it." Ms Drever told the court in her victim statement: "I am incredibly scared of Dean and never want to have contact with him again." The 33-year-old, now living on Church Lane in Haddenham, admitted resisting police officers Simon Kerr and Andrew Metcalfe, as well as harassing Ms Drever.
During mitigation, solicitor Chris Casey noted that the relationship between Robins and Ms Drever had been tumultuous but was now over.
He claimed no baton was found by police and accused officers of using excessive force, stating that Robins suffered cuts to his face and hands after police allegedly jumped on him.
Casey added that Robins was unaware of the pistol holster's presence and that he had difficulty breathing after his arrest, requiring hospital treatment.
