DAVINA BISSET SHOCKS BRIDGE OF EARN WITH BRUTAL ASSAULT ON 95-YEAR-OLD DEMENTIA PATIENT
A disturbing incident of abuse has come to light at the Moncrieff Nursing and Residential Home in Bridge of Earn, Perthshire, where a 53-year-old carer, Davina Bisset, was found guilty of assaulting a 95-year-old woman suffering from dementia.The assault, which left the elderly victim covered in bruises, resulted in Bisset being fined £600 and losing her employment.
The incident was reported by a junior colleague who witnessed the distressing event, prompting immediate action from authorities.
During court proceedings, prosecutors detailed the harrowing circumstances of the assault.
It was revealed that Bisset was recorded making distressing comments such as, 'will you stop it, stop hitting me, do as you're told,' while physically grabbing the woman's leg and forcefully pushing it back onto the bed.
The elderly woman, who was lying on her back, appeared visibly frightened during the ordeal.
Bisset's actions included attempting to roll the victim onto her side to facilitate bedding changes, but she went further by pinning her down to the bed, covering her head with a duvet, and causing injuries in the process.
The court heard that a colleague intervened during the assault, but Bisset refused to leave the room.
She reportedly declared, 'No, I've started so I'll finish.
She needs to learn to behave,' and warned the victim, 'Stop being a brat.' These aggressive words and actions underscored the severity of the abuse.
Following the incident, Bisset was immediately suspended by the care home, with reports made to the Care Inspectorate, social services, and police authorities to ensure further investigation.
In her defense, Bisset admitted to physically grabbing the woman's wrists, pulling her arms across her body, attempting to roll her, pinning her to the bed multiple times, and covering her head with a duvet.
Her legal representative described her as having a close and loving relationship with the victim, having cared for her over the past five years.
The lawyer expressed remorse for her actions, emphasizing that such behavior was out of character for her.
