**update April 2026 An abusive former partner made a total of 17 phone calls to his ex while incarcerated, despite being imprisoned for harassing her.The 57-year-old, David Timlin, was initially sentenced in September 2024 for persistent harassment, described by the court as a relentless campaign of behaviour towards the woman.
However, three months into his sentence at Erlestoke Prison in Wiltshire, Timlin made another call to his victim, flagrantly violating the restraining order in place.
His former partner expressed her horror upon hearing his voice, describing it as eerily normal, which left her feeling shocked.
During a hearing at Exeter Crown Court, the judge remarked that it was 'astonishing' the prison authorities had not taken straightforward measures to prevent him from contacting her.
Timlin, who hails from Chudleigh, admitted to breaching the restraining order and was subsequently sentenced to an additional 18 months in prison.

David Timlin, aged 55, of New Exeter Street, Chudleigh, was found guilty of harassment by putting someone in fear of violence and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
The court heard that Timlin had made numerous threats, sent gifts, left hundreds of messages, and ignored all requests from the woman to leave her alone.
Despite being released on bail with strict conditions not to contact her, he continued to harass the victim, including trying to control her movements and making contact while in prison.
The judge, David Evans, described Timlin as 'utterly deluded' and said he had 'completely refused to see reason' despite her repeated pleas.
He stated, 'You sound at times utterly deluded as you dictate terms on which she is allowed to exist.' The court also noted Timlin's history of similar behavior against a previous partner.
Additionally, a restraining order was imposed to prevent further contact.
Prosecutor Emily Pitts explained that Timlin’s conduct included sending flowers, making apologies, and showing up at her house asking for cuddles, which frightened and unwell her due to his obsession.
Timlin's behavior persisted even after he assaulted her in her home in December 2023 and told her 'I'm going to kill you,' which led to his arrest.
However, he continued the harassment, including bombarding her with messages and attempting to influence her cooperation with police.
In her victim statement, she described the harassment as 'unrelenting.' The court highlighted that Timlin has a history of similar abuse against past partners.
He pleaded guilty to these charges, and a restraining order was set to keep him away from the victim until further notice.
The judge condemned his actions as attempts to possess her rather than true love, emphasizing the controlling and possessive nature of his conduct.
