A 42-year-old man from Bottesford has been sentenced to over five years in prison after assaulting his girlfriend multiple times.

During a court session at Leicester Crown Court, it was revealed that David Smith inflicted two severe episodes of violence on his then-partner earlier this year, specifically on January 3 and March 8, at his residence on Granby Drive.

The woman suffered a cut lip along with bruising and swelling across various parts of her body.

Smith pleaded guilty to two counts of actual bodily harm (ABH), resulting in a judge imposing a sentence of five years and six months behind bars.

Additionally, he was subject to a long-term restraining order that prohibits any contact with his former girlfriend.

Detective Constable James Piskula of Leicestershire Police’s domestic abuse unit commented: “Smith launched two violent and disturbing attacks on his partner, one lasting over two hours.

“These brutal assaults caused her to have significant bruising and swelling to her face, head, and other areas.” He continued, “Thankfully, she did not suffer lasting physical injuries and was able to come forward for help.

“I am glad that Smith confessed to these crimes, and that the victim has achieved some measure of justice and closure.”
