GLASGOW MAN SENTENCED FOR DOMESTIC HOMICIDE
A 75-year-old man, David Rule, killed his wife Donna in a frenzied attack with a wooden mallet.David Rule rained down at least 12 blows on his wife while she was sitting in bed.
Police who arrived at the scene found Donna lying in a pool of blood with the mallet beside her.
At the High Court in Glasgow, Rule admitted to the culpable homicide of his wife at Barrhill Road, Pinwherry, by Girvan, on September 1 of the previous year.
It was reported that Rule had exhibited symptoms of dementia and was undergoing treatment for depression.
The court heard that the trigger for the assault was his wife attempting to get him to do paperwork, which allegedly 'cracked his confidence.' Additionally, it was noted that Rule had expressed concerns that his wife wanted him committed to a mental institution.
The judge, Lady Dorrain, deferred sentence until the following month to allow for background reports.
