DAVID POWER FROM EATON BISHOP CAUGHT IN HEREFORD RIVER INCIDENT
In April 2021, a disturbing incident involving a known sex offender took place near the river in Hereford, where David Power, a 31-year-old resident of Pulley Avenue, Eaton Bishop, was involved in an act that has since garnered significant legal attention.Power was accused of performing a sexual act on himself in front of a child, an offense that he later admitted to in court. The incident occurred on August 2, 2018, and involved Power engaging in this inappropriate behavior with the intent of sexual gratification while a child under the age of 16 was present. The act took place by the river in Hereford, where Power was aware or should have been aware that a minor was witnessing his actions.
He appeared before Worcester Crown Court, where he pleaded guilty to two charges: exposure and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child. The case was prosecuted by Timothy Sapwell, who appeared via videolink, while Power was represented in person by his legal counsel, Jason Aris.
Judge Martin Jackson decided to adjourn the case to allow for a pre-sentence report to be prepared. Power was granted bail on the condition that he cooperate fully with the probation service during the report's preparation. The judge emphasized the importance of compliance, especially given Power’s status as a convicted sex offender, and warned him that failure to register with the police within three days would constitute a separate criminal offense punishable by up to five years in prison.
Power was instructed to provide police with his personal details, including his name, date of birth, any aliases, National Insurance number, and current addresses. The judge also reminded him that any change of address or other relevant details must be reported to the police promptly.
Additionally, Power faces an upcoming charge related to exposure from January of this year. His legal representative indicated that he is expected to plead guilty to this charge at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on May 12, with a strong likelihood of a guilty plea for all allegations.
The case was adjourned until June 16 for the sentencing hearing, during which the court will determine the appropriate punishment for Power’s actions. The incident and subsequent legal proceedings highlight ongoing concerns about public safety and the responsibilities of convicted offenders to adhere to legal requirements.
