DAVID POTTS SENTENCED FOR HORRIFIC RAPE IN NAFFERTON AND BRADFORD

In a case that has shocked the local community, David Potts, a resident of Nafferton near Driffield, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after being convicted of raping a young girl. The conviction was handed down by a jury at Bradford Crown Court, where evidence clearly demonstrated Potts's involvement in the heinous crime committed between March 2003 and March 2004.

During the trial, it was revealed that Potts was not the only individual implicated in this disturbing case. Three other men from Bradford—Kevin Wright, aged 38; Alan Morrison, aged 47; and Graham Blowers, who has since passed away—were also found guilty of participating in gang-raping the same young girl. The assaults took place over a span of two years, from 2002 to 2004, with the older child being forced to witness the abuse.

Adding to the gravity of the case, a woman whose identity remains protected for legal reasons was convicted of child cruelty related to the incidents. Wright received a sentence of 18 years in prison, while Morrison was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of nine years before parole eligibility. The woman was sentenced to 18 months behind bars.

Detective Constable Suzanna Jones, a member of West Yorkshire Police’s child and public protection unit, expressed her satisfaction with the sentences, emphasizing their importance in reflecting the severity of the crimes. She praised the bravery of the victims, who provided evidence despite the difficult circumstances, and conveyed hope that the sentences would help them begin to rebuild their lives. DC Jones also extended her sympathies to the victims and their families, acknowledging their strength and courage throughout the legal process.

Prosecutor Caroline Wigin detailed the medical examination of the young girl, which confirmed signs of sexual abuse. Despite this, all the accused denied the allegations, claiming the girl was not abused. The older girl testified that Kevin Wright was the first to assault the younger girl, recounting that he struck her with a belt and kicked her legs. She also revealed that she was forced to watch the abuse and was threatened with imprisonment if she disclosed what had happened. The testimony described a horrifying scene where the men took turns raping the younger girl while the others held her down, a case that has left a lasting impact on all involved.
