HADSTON MAN DAVID MAVIN EXPOSES HIMSELF TO SCHOOLGIRLS ON BUS IN NORTHUMBERLAND
In May 2017, a disturbing incident occurred involving David Mavin, a resident of Hadston near Amble, Northumberland, that drew the attention of local authorities and the community alike.The incident took place on a public bus traveling through Ellington, where Mavin, then 43 years old, engaged in an act of public indecency that shocked both the young victims and the bus driver.
According to court reports, Mavin was accompanied by a group of friends when he boarded the bus.
He proceeded to the upper deck, where a group of schoolgirls, aged between 12 and 13, were seated and engaged in their own conversations.
The bus driver, monitoring the situation via CCTV, observed Mavin and his companions as they ascended to the top deck.
It was during this time that the driver witnessed a highly inappropriate act.
As the bus traveled through Ellington, the driver saw Mavin expose his genitals to the three young girls.
The CCTV footage captured Mavin smirking and, in a disturbing tone, asking the girls, “have you seen anything like this before?” The driver, alarmed by the behavior, immediately brought the bus to a halt and confronted Mavin and his friends.
The three girls, understandably distressed, disembarked from the bus at that point.
Following the incident, the bus driver took swift action by stopping the vehicle and addressing the situation directly.
Mavin was identified from the CCTV footage and subsequently arrested by authorities.
The case was brought before South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court, where Mavin pleaded guilty to a charge of exposure.
During the court proceedings, prosecutor Sue Baker detailed the events, emphasizing that the offense occurred around 6:40 pm on October 22.
She explained that the CCTV footage clearly showed Mavin exposing himself to the young girls, with the defendant smirking and making the lewd comment.
Although the driver could not see the girls’ reactions, the fact that they disembarked immediately indicated their distress.
In sentencing, Mavin was fined £80, with additional costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
The court’s decision reflected the seriousness of the offense and the need to uphold community standards and protect minors from such misconduct.
