ABERDEEN MAN WALKS FREE AFTER STALKING VICTIM FOR 10 YEARS
A man named David Leverett, aged 57, has been involved in a stalking case in Aberdeen where he pursued an oil worker named Calum Davidson over a period of 10 years. He reportedly turned up in parks and in the city where his victim, Mr.
Davidson, went jogging.
The court heard that Leverett had become so fixated that he even handed Mr.
Davidson a love letter.
Although he was found guilty of breach of the peace in March of the previous year, the sheriff chose to admonish him due to his status as a first-time offender.
Leverett had denied harassing Mr.
Davidson, giving him unwanted attention, and causing distress on various dates in March last year, and had kept a photograph of his victim cut from a local newspaper.
He claimed he simply 'watched' his victim and did not follow or attempt to locate him, asserting that no reasonable person would have been alarmed.
The victim, Mr.
Davidson, went to the police after receiving the letter, and the police warned Leverett to stay away.
During the court proceedings, the depute fiscal highlighted the sinister nature of Leverett's actions, particularly his possession of a photograph and his persistence in watching Mr.
Davidson three times a week, which caused him to fear for his family's safety.
Despite the guilty verdict, Leverett was not sentenced to a term of imprisonment but was admonished by the court because of his first-time offender status.
