FORMER SOLDIER WHO SUBJECTED A WOMAN TO A CAMPAIGN OF PHYSICAL AND SEXUAL ABUSE HAS BEEN JAILED FOR SEVEN YEARS
David Law, aged 34, assaulted his victim by burning her with a lit cigarette, threw a suitcase at her, struck her on the head, and pushed her onto the ground. He also committed sexual assaults on the woman at a guesthouse in Dumfries.
A judge described these acts as amounting to rape 'in substance, but not in legal terminology.' Identify from Maryhill, Glasgow, Law denied engaging in a pattern of abusive behavior during 2022 and 2023.
However, he was convicted by the High Court in Glasgow.
Judge Bruce Erroch KC told Law that his conduct had caused emotional and psychological harm to the woman, who has since needed counseling for anxiety.
The judge noted that Law continued to deny any physical or sexual abuse and accused the woman of manipulation and control.
The court was informed that Law harassed the woman through repeated phone calls, threatened her, shouted and swore at her, damaged her property, refused to allow her to leave her home, and questioned her about her companions.
The charges covered multiple locations, including Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Dundee, Tenerife in Spain, and Mauritius.
Law was ordered to register as a sex offender and is prohibited from approaching the victim indefinitely.
His defense lawyer, Graeme Brown, stated earlier that Law maintains his denial of the allegations and has the support of his family.
The judge’s comments highlighted the severe impact of Law’s behavior on his victim, emphasizing the ongoing legal restrictions imposed on him.
