DANGEROUS SEX OFFENDER DAVID HAZELL FROM BISHOP'S ITCHINGTON JAILED IN COVENTRY
In October 2017, a man from Bishop’s Itchington was sentenced to prison after being convicted of multiple serious sexual offences involving children.David Norman Hazell, aged 62 and residing on Ladbroke Road, was found guilty of numerous charges, including indecent assault, rape, three counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and four counts of raping a child under 13.
A judge at Coventry Crown Court sentenced Hazell to 20 years in prison for his crimes.
All the offences were committed against a boy and a girl over a period spanning from 1994 to 2012.
Earlier, in July 2017, Hazell was also described as a violent child rapist guilty of abusing a young boy over several years, with the abuse described as a "horrific reign of abuse." Hazell, from Gaydon in Warwickshire, appeared at Coventry Crown Court, where he initially denied the allegations of a series of serious sexual offences against the young boy.
Despite maintaining his denial, he was compelled to give evidence during the trial, which caused the victim to relive the traumatic events.
Hazell refused to stand or defend himself when questioned by the prosecution, yet after seven days, the jury unanimously convicted him on ten charges, including the rape of a boy under 13 and the rape and sexual assault of an adult female.
The investigation began after the boy disclosed to his mother that he had been molested.
Authorities uncovered that Hazell's abusive conduct had persisted for more than eight years.
The court revealed that the abuse started when the boy was just four years old and continued until he was 12.
Hazell subjected the child to repeated acts of violence, threats—once telling the boy he would rape and kill his mother—and physical harm whenever the boy resisted.
Sentencing was scheduled for September 25.
The impact on the young victim has been profound.
Since the abuse, he has engaged in self-harm, including biting and cutting himself from age 6 and attempting suicide multiple times.
Fearing retaliation or further harm from Hazell or his mother, the boy was admitted to a specialist hospital where he receives ongoing counselling and medication.
The court was informed that the boy now suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, severe depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic attacks, and flashbacks, underscoring the lasting damage caused by Hazell’s heinous actions.
