DAVE HARBOUR FROM BEAUMARIS SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN NORTH WALES
In October 2002, a man named David Harbour, aged 34 and residing on New Street in Beaumaris, was sentenced to twelve months in prison after being found guilty of sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl. The incident, which took place in the town of Beaumaris, involved Harbour engaging in inappropriate and sexual conduct with the young girl, whom he managed to manipulate and control during their interactions.According to court proceedings at Caernarfon Crown Court, Harbour, a double glazing salesman by profession, was accused of fondling the girl, leaving love bites on her body, and making explicit sexual remarks. The court heard that Harbour's actions included discussing graphic sexual acts, which caused significant distress to the young victim. As part of his sentence, Harbour was ordered to register as a sex offender for a period of ten years and was disqualified from working with children, reflecting the severity of his misconduct.
Judge John Rogers QC emphasized the court’s responsibility to protect vulnerable young women from exploitation and abuse. He stated, “I am very much aware of the court’s duty to protect young women against themselves. Therefore, a prison sentence is inevitable.”
Prosecutor Simon Medland told the court that the girl had confided in police, expressing her discomfort and fear regarding Harbour’s actions. Medland explained, “This defendant never physically threatened her, but she was plainly scared by his desire for full and graphic sexual intercourse.” The prosecutor also revealed that Harbour had told the girl he loved her and that they would have babies together, further manipulating her emotionally.
Harbour’s defense lawyer, Rhys Rowlands, acknowledged the gravity of the situation, stating, “He is realistic. A custodial sentence is inevitable.” The case highlights the dangers of grooming and manipulation by adults towards minors, and the court’s decision underscores the importance of safeguarding children from sexual exploitation in communities like Beaumaris and across North Wales.
