DANGEROUS PAEDOPHILE COP DAVID GEERING FROM ST ALBANS JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY IN LONDON
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community, David Geering, a former police officer from St Albans, Hertfordshire, has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for crimes involving the possession and distribution of indecent images of children. The conviction was handed down at Southwark Crown Court on April 28, following a detailed investigation into his activities.Geering, who was serving as a detective constable with the Metropolitan Police at the time of his offenses, was caught after engaging in online communication with an undercover officer from the Met’s Paedophile Unit. The officer was posing as a 12-year-old girl, and Geering, 48 years old, initiated contact under the false name Nigel Robotham. His online interactions raised suspicions among investigators, prompting further scrutiny of his digital footprint.
Authorities uncovered that Geering had been involved in the distribution of hundreds of indecent images of children, some of which were classified at the most severe level, Level 5. These images were shared with other individuals involved in similar criminal activities. The police traced his internet activity to an internet café located in Victoria, central London, as well as to residential addresses in Hertfordshire and even in Spain, indicating a potentially extensive network of illicit exchanges.
Geering’s arrest took place on March 29 of the previous year, when officers detained him on suspicion of possessing and distributing child abuse material. Following his arrest, he was suspended from his duties with the Metropolitan Police, specifically from his role within the Homicide and Serious Crime Command. The police confirmed that he was asked to resign from the force after his conviction.
Further investigations revealed that Geering’s computer and digital devices contained evidence linking him to the usernames and identities he used to contact the undercover officer. Police also examined a camera memory card recovered from his possession, which contained indecent images of two children that Geering had taken himself, adding a deeply disturbing dimension to his crimes.
Detective Superintendent Sue Knight, of the Metropolitan Police’s Child Abuse Investigation Command, issued a stark warning about the case. She emphasized the extensive nature of the investigation and urged anyone who might have concerns about their children being contacted by Geering, under his pseudonym Nigel Robotham, to come forward. She provided a contact number for the Met’s Paedophile Unit, which is 020 7161 3877, to facilitate reporting and further inquiries.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat child exploitation and bring offenders to justice. The community is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity related to child abuse to ensure the safety of all children.
